Moral system

Houston Chronicle - - FROM THE COVER -

Regarding “Harris County Democratic Socialist is ready to get to work” (Erica Grieder, Dec. 5): Newly elected Judge Franklin Bynum declares seriously that he would like to end capitalism. What is his opinion of the capitalism whose taxed profits will pay his salary? Anyone opposed to capitalism is a victim of disgracefully calamitous mis-education.

Capitalism — productive achievement and trade, all parties participating voluntarily and going away happy — is our sole, solitary moral economic system, the only mechanism that propagates abundance and has elevated multitudes out of poverty. All other system yield scarcity and rely on force to lesser or greater extent, confiscating and redistributing the fruits of production.

It has been accurately observed that socialists are rightfully appalled at slavery, but they have no problem whatever with the concept of slavery — that being the forcible use of one person’s labor to benefit another. J. Reynolds, Houston
