Harvard women upset No. 14 Cal

Katie Benzan scored 19 points, and Sydney Skinner made four free throws in the last 19.5 seconds as Harvard upset No. 14 California 85-79 at Berkeley, Calif., outscoring the Golden Bears 8-1 in the final 45 seconds.

There were 12 ties and 12 lead changes, but the Crimson (7-6) led most of the way. It is the second time that Harvard defeated a ranked Pac-12 team on its home court — the Crimson beat top-seeded Stanford in the NCAA Tournament as a 16-seed in 1998.

California (9-2), coming off a home loss to topranked UConn, got 22 points from McKenzie Forbes. In other action:

• Aari McDonald scored 24 points as Arizona never trailed in cruising to a victory over No. 17 Arizona State 51-39 at Tucson, Ariz., in the Pac-12 opener for both women’s teams. Sam Thomas added 11 points for the Wildcats (11-1), who won their 10th in a row.

• Nia Clouden scored 27 points, and Jenna Allen had 17 rebounds as No. 20 Michigan State pulled away from 16th-ranked Iowa in the second half to win 84-70 at East Lansing, Mich. The one-two punch for the Spartans (11-1) offset a 30-point, 14-rebound outing for Megan Gustafson, who became the all-time leading scorer for the Hawkeyes (9-3).

• Presley Hudson scored 23 points, making seven of eight free throws in the final 32.8 seconds, as Central Michigan upset No. 24 Miami 90-80 at Coral Gables, Fla. Reyna

Frost added 25 points and 10 rebounds, and Micaela

Kelly had 18 points for the Chippewas (9-3), who never trailed after scoring the final seven points of the first quarter for a 26-21 lead.

• Kira Lewis Jr. had 17 points and eight assists, and Donta Hall added 12 points and 14 rebounds as Alabama beat Stephen F. Austin 79-69 at Nacogdoche­s. Hall recorded his fifth double-double of the season for the Crimson Tide (9-3), who won their fourth in a row. Shannon
