Boys Jesse Zarzuela, Spring Woods Notable:
The UTEP commitment averaged 17.5 points through four games at the Byron Johnston Classic, earning tournament MVP and helping Spring Woods win the tournament for the second consecutive year.
What coach Joe Gibson said:
“He’s having a good start to the first half of the season. He’s averaging 22 points a game. He’s leading us in scoring. His leadership has been great.”
Other nominees TJ Fountain, Texas City:
The Brazosport ISD tournament MVP scored 18 points with eight rebounds, two assists and four steals in a 58-49 win over New Braunfels to win the gold bracket.
Ronald Harleston, Madison:
Harleston had 25 points, seven rebounds and two assists against St. Pius X and 15 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals against ProVision Academy.
Jaja Sanni, Clear Lake:
He averaged 14.5 points during the LISD Tournament, including getting 18 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in a win over Lake Highlands.
Girls Telisha Brown, Wheatley Notable:
Brown scored 19 points and 39 points against Cypress Falls and Highland Park, respectively, to push her average to 36.3 points per game, which is tops in the nation.

Other nominees Kate Frank, The Woodlands:
The Woodlands won the Silver Bracket of the Magnolia Holiday Hoopfest with a 54-50 win over Magnolia thanks to Frank’s 17 points. Frank was 5-of-5 from the 3-point line.
Tori Garza, New Caney:
She had 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and five steals in a 66-58 victory over Aldine Davis.
Micayla Hamilton, Foster:
Hamilton’s 19 points, seven assists and six rebounds helped Foster to a 58-33 win over Cinco Ranch in the gold bracket of the Magnolia Holiday Hoopfest. Foster is 22-4.
