A 24-year-old man is accused of killing the manager of a Greenspoint-area salon while out on bond for a domestic violence arrest, court records show.

Anthony Montgomery was released from the Harris County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond on Jan. 3, according to records. Three days later, he allegedly shot 29year-old Kodjo Yabi to death.

He is believed to have wrestled a gun away from Yabi as he guarded the salon in the 17500 block of Imperial Valley Drive during a concert. Yabi also was collecting a cover for the after-hours concert happening inside, police said.

Montgomery opened fire with Yabi’s weapon and shot him once, according to investigators. He fled the salon with the gun and cash, police said. Yabi soon died at the salon.

Last week, authorities shared surveillance footage of the suspected gunman. Montgomery was arrested in the death Saturday and has been charged with murder.

He was previously jailed Dec. 29 after allegedly beating his girlfriend. Prosecutors asked that Montgomery be held without bond because of his lengthy criminal history and to protect the woman he was dating, according to court papers. He was slated to be arraigned in that case in February.

Past convictions include criminal mischief, evading motor vehicle, theft, trespassing and robbery.

A mental health evaluation was ordered for Montgomery shortly before he appeared in court Sunday afternoon.
