3 held after leading police on wild chase

-

Three people were taken into custody after a police chase in northwest Houston early Sunday, authorities said.

The pursuit kicked off just before 1 a.m. when Houston police spotted a driver in a car that had been reported stolen.

Officers started following the vehicle on Hempstead Highway near 43rd and got into a chase that went to Loop 610, east to Interstate 45 and all the way up to FM 1960, at one point driving the wrong way on the feeder.

The pursuit finally ended near Rayford and Theiss after police laid out spike strips and the fleeing driver blew out the car’s tires.

It’s not clear why the driver fled, and police did not immediately specify what charges could stem from the incident.
