Drunken man shot dead by homeowner

A man died Saturday night after a shooting at a residence in north Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Gunfire broke out around 7:20 p.m. on Veenstra near Fulton when a homeowner allegedly found a drunken man on his property. The homeowner told the man to leave, but he kept coming back and trying to break through the front door.

Eventually, according to authoritie­s, the homeowner allegedly got a gun and shot the would-be intruder.The intoxicate­d man died before police showed up, and the homeowner was taken in for questionin­g and released. No charges are expected.
