Drunken man shot dead by homeowner

A man died Saturday night after a shooting at a residence in north Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Gunfire broke out around 7:20 p.m. on Veenstra near Fulton when a homeowner allegedly found a drunken man on his property. The homeowner told the man to leave, but he kept coming back and trying to break through the front door.

Eventually, according to authorities, the homeowner allegedly got a gun and shot the would-be intruder.The intoxicated man died before police showed up, and the homeowner was taken in for questioning and released. No charges are expected.
