SOCCER BALL

-

SOPHIE ALLISON TOOK HER MELODIC POP SONGS TO BANDCAMP AS SOCCER MOMMY AND A CROWD FORMED FOR HER SPARTAN BUT NOT EXACTLY LO-FI TRACKS. IN 2018, SHE RELEASED THE “CLEAN” ALBUM THAT FOUND HER EXPANDING HER SOUND FOR A BROADER AUDIENCE.

1. La familia

Chucho Valdés’ career dates back to mid-’60s Havana, when he was the cornerstone pianist in Havana’s best studio band and a member of the brilliant Orquesta Cubana de Musica Moderna. He has since become an instrumentalist, composer and interpreter of great renown, adding his very distinctive stamp to jazz and Latin jazz. At 77, he’s a legend and iconoclast. And there’s still a lot in the tank, evidenced by his recent album “Familia: Tribute to Bebo and Chico,” which found Valdés and Arturo O’Farrill honoring the music of their legendary bigband fathers.

When: 8 p.m. Friday Where: Wortham Theater Center, 501 Texas

Details: $42.50-$72.50; 713524-5050, dacamera.com Andrew Dansby

2. Lasting Legacy

Marc Anthony celebrates 30 years of salsa and pop hits on his current Legacy Tour. The singer and actor released his last album in 2013. But he has kept busy, and relevant, by collaborating with younger acts like Maluma, Prince Royce and Bad Bunny. Anthony scored a pair of big English-language hits (“I Need to Know,” “You Sang to Me”) but has built his career on sweltering tropical songs. Expect those to occupy most of his set.

When: 8 p.m. Sunday Where: Toyota Center, 1510 Polk Details: $61-$201; 866-4468849, houstontoyotacenter.com Joey Guerra

3. Astroworld returns

Travis Scott’s recent Astroworld Festival was a double-edged sword for local fans. We were treated to a unique experience that no other city was able to experience. But we also didn’t get the full Scott touring experience, which included tons of wacky set pieces. Scott is correcting that with this tour stop, which should come with all the quirks we’ve come to expect from him. And probably a Jenner sighting or two.

When: 8 p.m. Wednesday Where: Toyota Center, 1510 Polk Details: $39.95-$249.95; 866446-8849, houstontoyota center.com Joey Guerra

4. They write the songs

The members of Omaha’s Cursive have been through a variety of breakups and moments of hiatus over the course of the past 24 years but with the latest album, “Vitriola,” the group’s punchy, emotional, Pixies-ish guitar rock, with hints of cello, sounds as good as it ever did. Let’s see if they can pull it off live. Summer Cannibals and Campdogzz open. When: 7 p.m. Sunday Where: White Oak Music Hall, 2915 Main

Details: $15; whiteoakmusic hall.com Cary Darling

5. Join the parade

Lawndale’s first Speakeasy event of the year is a festive daytime happening, an African-inspired performance with costumes that make Mardi Gras look like playtime. Yoruba water deity Yemoga and a parade of other fantastical characters from Akirash’s show, “Ara Oru Kinkin,” will come to life in the artist’s sparkling, many layered costumes — dancing, drumming and leading their audience down Main Street. When: 2:30 p.m. Saturday Where: Lawndale Art Center, 4912 Main

Details: Free; 713-5285858, lawndaleartcenter.org Molly Glentzer

6. ‘Dancing’ stars

The pressure of competition is over, but the Season 27 cast of “Dancing With the Stars” is still kicking. Argentinian actor Juan Pablo di Pace (“Fuller House”) guest stars with Witney Carson, Artem Chigvintsev, Gleb Savchenko, Emma Slater, Sasha Farber, Alan Bersten, Jenna Johnson, Brandon Armstrong and others in a glitzy show choreographed by Mandy Moore and Ashley Edens-Shaffer.
