U.S. ice dancers pack 1-2 punch
American ice-dancing teams held the top two positions at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Anaheim, Calif., after the rhythm dance. Two-time national champions Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue had a narrow lead over Madison Chock and Evan Bates. Canadians Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, who took bronze at least year’s world championships, were third. Kirsten MooreTowers and Michael Marinaro of Canada led after the pairs short program. … Wendy Holdener retained her Alpine combined title at the skiing world championships in Are, Sweden, by beating Petra Vlhova by 0.03 seconds. Holdener, who also won the team event at last year’s Pyeongchang Olympics, has earned gold medals at three consecutive major championships. She is the fifth woman to win back-to-back world titles in the combined. …Former Indianapolis and Detroit coach Jim Caldwell was hired by new Miami coach Brian Flores as assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach. Caldwell was among 16 members of Flores’ staff announced Friday. The group includes new offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, both former New England assistants.
