U.S. ice dancers pack 1-2 punch

American ice-dancing teams held the top two positions at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championsh­ips in Anaheim, Calif., after the rhythm dance. Two-time national champions Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue had a narrow lead over Madison Chock and Evan Bates. Canadians Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, who took bronze at least year’s world championsh­ips, were third. Kirsten MooreTower­s and Michael Marinaro of Canada led after the pairs short program. … Wendy Holdener retained her Alpine combined title at the skiing world championsh­ips in Are, Sweden, by beating Petra Vlhova by 0.03 seconds. Holdener, who also won the team event at last year’s Pyeongchan­g Olympics, has earned gold medals at three consecutiv­e major championsh­ips. She is the fifth woman to win back-to-back world titles in the combined. …Former Indianapol­is and Detroit coach Jim Caldwell was hired by new Miami coach Brian Flores as assistant head coach and quarterbac­ks coach. Caldwell was among 16 members of Flores’ staff announced Friday. The group includes new offensive coordinato­r Chad O’Shea and defensive coordinato­r Patrick Graham, both former New England assistants.
