Hard backbone

-

Regarding “Saves face, not lives” (Editorial, Friday): This patriot is answering your call to stand up — FOR — President Trump. During the eight years of the Obama administration, patriots like myself complained about Obama’s “I’ve got a pen and phone” legislative maneuvers. Obama implemented the Deferred Action for Childhoood Arrivals program, and you cheered. We warned this was an abuse of power. There were many other executive actions carried out by Obama that have simply and subsequently been undone by President Trump and rightly so.

Yes, we conservative patriots are rightly wincing to some extent over Trump’s so-called national emergency, but at some point, you have to say enough is enough. Since immigration reform was last addressed in 1986, presidents and Congress alike have campaigned on securing our southern border and cracking down on illegal immigration, yet nothing has gotten done to stem this flow.

Gripe all you want about President Trump, at least we finally have a president with a backbone willing to look out for the best interests of the American people first and not some dubious new world order that puts America last. Tim Graney, Katy
