Bill.com selects Houston for office expansion
Provider of digital business outlays based in Palo Alto, Calif., will set up shop on the west side
Bill.com, a digital business payments company based in Palo Alto, Calif., has tapped Houston to house its first satellite office.
The company will open a 25,000-square-foot office in Parkway Property’s CityWestPlace campus in the Westchase District around May. It will initially operate out of TechSpace co-working offices in the same complex.
“We conducted an extensive national search to select our first location outside the San Francisco Bay Area,” Bill.com. Chief Executive René Lacerte said in an announcement. “We’re growing at a high speed and it’s critical to find the right mix of talent, quality of life and business-friendliness in our next office location. We found all this and more in Houston and are delighted the city can support our next phase of growth.”
Bill.com aims to hire about 125 employees over the next three years. It will initially ramp up for engineering and customer service, but will hire for other roles once it moves into permanent office space.
The Greater Houston Partnership worked with the company for more than six months to aid the expansion to Houston. Bill.com also partnered with local tech connector Station Houston, and will participate in Station Startup Gigs and Rice University hiring events Feb. 19 and 24.
“Houston has always been at the cutting edge of technology — we put a person on the moon and created the first artificial heart, and we continue to build on that legacy,” Susan Davenport, the Greater Houston Partnership’s chief economic development officer, said in an email. “We’ve been working hard over the last couple of years to develop our community as a hub for digital tech, and the Bill.com expansion here is a validation and confirmation that we’ve made great progress.”
Bill.com’s cloud-based payment management platform is designed to automate, streamline and control the payments process. The company serves banks, accounting firms and accounting software providers.
In its statement, the company said an office in the Central time zone would enable it to better serve its customers, including many financial institutions in the Midwest and East Coast.
