Jimenez, White Sox finalize pact

Highly regarded outfield prospect Eloy Jimenez and the Chicago White Sox have finalized a $43 million, six-year contract, a deal nearly double the amount of the previous high for a player under club control yet to make his major league debut.

The agreement announced Friday includes team options for 2025 and 2026 that if exercised would raise the total to $75 million over eight years.

Jimenez hit .337 with 22 homers and 75 RBIs at Class AA and Class AAA last season.

“Eloy is a tremendous­ly talented young player who has impressed us with his baseball skills, poise and maturity from the moment he joined the White Sox organizati­on,” general manager Rick Hahn said. In other news:

• Athletics first baseman Matt Olson underwent surgery on his right hand Friday. He was injured on a foul tip in his final at-bat during Oakland’s 5-4, 12-inning loss to the Mariners in Tokyo. The Gold Glove first baseman played all 162 games last season as the A’s returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Olson hit 29 homers and drove in 85 runs last year in his first full major league season.

• Reds All-Star second baseman Scooter Gennett injured a leg while fielding a grounder against Milwaukee.

Gennett ranged to his left for a ball off the bat of Yasmani Grandal leading off the second inning. Gennett slid to make the stop and threw to pitcher Robert Stephenson covering first for the out. Gennett went to his knees and was helped off by Reds head athletic trainer Steve Baumann and manager David Bell. Gennett was to have an MRI.

• Catcher Matt Wieters has been added to the Cardinals’ roster after earning the back-up job behind Yadier Molina, Wieters’ contract was selected from Class AAA Memphis. He gets a $1.5 million salary while in the major leagues and $200,000 while in the minors. To clear a roster spot, the Cardinals designated lefthander Chasen Shreve for assignment.
