Shelter cuts adoption fees for those waiting a long time for home
Bella surely thought she had a forever home after being adopted from the Houston Humane Society in 2015.
But her owner returned the 4-year-old pup in December because she was moving to a new place that was too small for Bella.
Bella is a Shepherd mix, possibly with Shiba Inu. She’s house-trained, good with kids, energetic and a good car rider. She also knows some commands, including “sit” and “stay.”
Also at the Houston Humane Society is Sasha, a gorgeous black-and-white tuxedo cat. She also was adopted from the Humane Society but returned in November because the child in the home was allergic to her. Sasha is 10 years old and must be the only pet in the household. She loves having her hair brushed and still enjoys playing with cat toys.
These are just a few of the animals ready to be adopted at the Houston Humane Society, 14700 Almeda. With puppy and kitten season underway, many adult dogs and cats are waiting a little longer for a family to take a chance on them. Some pets have been waiting over a month to be adopted. So the Humane Society is offering 30 percent discount off the adoption fee for anyone adopting a dog or cat that has been at the shelter 30 days or more.
The Houston Humane Society is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sundays. Adoptions fees are $125 for small dogs, $95 for big dogs, $50 for cats and $200 for horses. Fees include spay/neuter, vaccines and microchip. For information, call 713-4336421.
