NEW YORK METS

The club announced Monday that sidelined slugger Yoenis Cespedes broke his right ankle Saturday in an accident on his ranch in Port St. Lucie, Fla., where the Mets’ spring training complex is located.

Cespedes has been out most of the last two seasons and was recovering from surgery on both heels. New York had hoped he could return sometime after the AllStar break, but this latest setback puts Cespedes’ season — and perhaps career — in jeopardy.

TEXAS RANGERS

The club said that 2010 AL MVP Josh Hamilton will be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame on Aug. 17. Hamilton, who turns 38 on Tuesday, starred for the Rangers from 2008-12, earning five All-Star selections. He was part of their only two World Series teams (2010 and 2011) before leaving in free agency to join the Angels before the 2013 season. He finished his career with Texas in 2015.
