Rays top Red Sox, take three of four

BOSTON — Brandon Lowe hit a pair of solo homers, Blake Snell baffled Boston's lineup and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 6-1 to take three of four from the World Series champions.

Guillermo Heredia and Yandy Diaz also hit solo shots, and Lowe added an RBI single for Tampa Bay, which at 40-24 matched its season-high at 16 games over .500. Diaz had four hits.

Snell (4-5) became the third Rays starter to hold Boston to two runs or fewer in the series after Yonny Chirinos and Ryan Yarbrough.

ATHLETICS 9, RANGERS 8: Khris Davis homered for the first time in nearly a month as Oakland built an eightrun lead, then hung on to beat host Texas.

YANKEES 7, INDIANS 6 (10): Aaron Hicks delivered an RBI double with two outs in the 10th inning as visiting New York overcame stunning errors in the ninth by stars Aroldis Chapman and Didi Gregorius and avoided a sweep with a win over Cleveland.

MARINERS 9, ANGELS 3: Edwin Encarnacio­n hit two homers, including the 400th of his career, and Tom Murphy added two more as visiting Seattle beat Los Angeles Angels.

DODGERS 1, GIANTS 0: Walker Buehler and two relievers combined on a five-hitter, and Los Angeles beat ace Madison Bumgarner and host San Francisco.

CUBS 5, CARDINALS 1: Kyle Hendricks tossed one-run ball over seven innings to continue his dominance over St. Louis, lifting host Chicago to the win.

NATIONALS 5, PADRES 2: Howie Kendrick, Trea Turner, Adam Eaton and Anthony Rendon hit consecutiv­e home runs off Craig Stammen with one out in the eighth inning as visiting Washington defeated San Diego Padres.

TWINS 12, TIGERS 2: Nelson Cruz homered for the fourth straight game and visiting Minnesota connected four times in all to rout Detroit.

WHITE SOX 5, ROYALS 2: Eloy Jimenez launched a 471foot home run and Reynaldo Lopez bounced back with six effective innings as Chicago defeated host Kansas City.

METS 6, ROCKIES 1: Noah Syndergaar­d allowed one hit in seven shutout innings, Todd Frazier homered and drove in four runs, and host New York beat Colorado.

REDS 4, PHILLIES 3: Joey Votto tied the game for visiting Cincinnati with a two-out single in the seventh inning and Eugenio Suarez followed with the go-ahead hit to rally to a win over Philadelph­ia to avoid a threegame sweep.

BREWERS 5, PIRATES 2: NL MVP Christian Yelich hit his major-league leading 24th home run as host Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh for a three-game sweep.

BRAVES 7, MARLINS 6 (12): Matt Joyce delivered a tiebreakin­g RBI single in the 12th to help Atlanta rally past host Miami.

DIAMONDBAC­KS 8, BLUE JAYS 2: Carson Kelly and Ketel Marte homered during an eight-run burst in the third inning as visiting Arizona beat Toronto.
