THE 3 MILKS COCKTAIL AT MONKEY'S TAIL BAR.
MONKEY'S TAIL, 5802 FULTON, IS DESIGNED AS A MODERN MEXICAN-AMERICAN BAR.
The Mayan and Aztec cultures associate the monkey with art, games and fun. And the latter is certainly what the partners of Monkey’s Tail, a new neighborhood bar that opened Wednesday, are hoping to promote.
The Lindale Park bar at 5802 Fulton, in the former home of Ike’s Place, is a project from Sharif Al-Amin, Greg Perez and Jessie Gonzales. It is billed as a Mexican-American bar with beer, cocktails — including draft cocktails — and a food menu that includes clever takes on pizza, wings and burgers.
Beverage director Perez created a bar menu that is divided into “originales” (proprietary cocktails), “vietjitas” (classic cocktails with a twist) and “draft ’tails” (cocktails on tap).
On the “originales” list, for example, customers will find the 3 Milks (a take on tres leches made with rum, pineapple, strawberry, cherry and nutmeg), the Mama Coco (rum, coconut, passion fruit, green cardamom, caraway seed, cilantro, poppy seed, heavy cream) and the Esperanza (tequila, raspberry, watermelon, egg white, broiled lemon).
There are 20 taps for beer, one nitrogenated cocktail and four draft cocktails, including El Del Jarrito (tequila, tamarind, ginger, cloves, panela, lime) and the Dare to Eat a Peach (vodka, peach, marjoram, tarragon, mint, sparkling wine). Bottled and canned beer and wine by the glass and bottle also are available.
New York-style pizzas round out the food offerings. Topping options are many — including pork al pastor and barbacoa.
Monkey’s Tail, 5802 Fulton, will be open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
