THE MUST LIST

-

Panteón Rococó, Built to Spill will have us rockin’.

Built to Spill’s name fits for all manner of reasons, including the enduring alterna-rock band’s personnel, which has seen members come and go over the years. That leaves singer, songwriter and guitarist Doug Martsch as the constant, and he’s poured out eight BTS albums over the past 25 years. The pace has slowed a bit — just two in the past decade — with “Untethered Moon” how 4 years old. When: 8 p.m. Thursday

Where: White Oak Music Hall, 2915 N. Main

Details: $25; 713-2370370, whiteoakmusichall .com Andrew Dansby

2. ‘Exchange Rate’

In a nod to the nature of its home, built in 1878 as the First National Bank Building, when the Strand was the Wall Street of the South, the Galveston Arts Center’s new upstairs exhibition, “Exchange Rate,” features 13 regional artists who use currency as material and subject matter. In paper, metal, plastic and digital media, the works examine commercial systems of trade, value and labor as well as personal relationships to money. You’ll also want to sniff out the playful installation “Cat Butt Parfait: Chuck & George Explore

the Ecosystem of Domestic Feline Digestion” on the ground floor.

When: Opens 6 p.m. Saturday, with artist talks at 6:30 p.m., through Oct. 6; “Cat Butt Parfait” through Aug.18

Where: Galveston Arts Center, 2127 Strand, Galveston

3. Panteón Rococó

One of Mexico’s most ferocious live acts, the nine-piece Panteón Rococó plays an incendiary brand of ska-rock that is totally infectious, no matter whether you speak Spanish or not. The group is returning to Houston to push a new album, “Infiernos,” but it’s on stage where these guys can really strut their stuff. When: 7 p.m. Monday

Where: House of Blues, 1204 Caroline

Details: $42.50; houseofblues .com/houston Cary Darling

4. Saywer Yards Mural

Students in Art League Houston’s Summer High School Studio Art Intensive program collaborated with muralist Armando Castellan to study the historic neighborhoods around the Sawyer Yards area and pay homage with a new wall. A festive unveiling happens alongside July’s Second Saturday Open Studios event and a Saturday

Night Market.

When: 5:30 p.m. Saturday Where: Winter Street Studios, 2101 Winter

Details: Free; 713-523-9530, artleaguehouston.org Molly Glentzer

5. ‘Woyzeck’

Following the success of its postmodern take on the opera “Hansel and Gretel,” Rec Room has once again chosen a difficult classic text to bring to life. “Woyzeck,” considered by some to be the first modern Western drama, is an incomplete play written by a young German named Georg Büchner in the 1800s. Knowing director Matt Hune’s style, this production will likely be startling and refreshingly contemporary.

When: 8 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. WednesdaysThursdays, through Aug. 3 Where: Rec Room, 100 Jackson Details: $30; 713-344-1291, recroomarts.org. Wei-Huan Chen
