Temple’s wife files to end marriage amid murder trial

- By Samantha Ketterer STAFF WRITER

The second wife of David Temple filed for divorce this week amid the ex-football coach’s murder trial in the death of his first wife.

Heather Temple petitioned for divorce on Thursday, citing a “conflict of personalities” in her marriage.

“It is confirmed Heather has filed for divorce from her husband Thursday morning,” Heather Temple’s attorney, Kathy Adibe, said. “We are aware that her divorce filing is contemporaneous with the David Temple trial; however, we simply ask the media to please respect her privacy at this time.”

David Temple was having an affair with Heather, a coworker, before his wife died Jan. 11, 1999, according to testimony. Belinda Temple, 30, was found shot to death in the master bedroom closet at the couple’s Katy home.

The husband has sworn his innocence, saying a botched break-in led to Belinda’s slaying. She was eight months pregnant.

Heather and David Temple married two years later, in 2001.

David Temple was arrested in 2005 and found guilty in Belinda’s murder in 2007. He was released from jail in 2016 after an appeals court found prosecutorial misconduct in the first trial and reversed his conviction.

Heather Temple testified in the first trial, prompting Belinda’s family to offer a statement regarding her possible upcoming testimony.

“We are hopeful that by filing for divorce, Heather will be more candid, forthcoming and factual as to what she knows about Belinda’s murder,” victim advocate Andy Kahan said on behalf of Belinda’s family.
