CLEVELAND INDIANS

Corey Kluber threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session as the righthander continues his comeback from a broken forearm.

Kluber threw off the mound for the second time Sunday since being struck on the right arm by a line drive on May 1.

Manager Terry Francona said Kluber is scheduled to throw off the mound again Wednesday.

COLORADO ROCKIES

Mark Reynolds was cut two home runs shy of 300 after hitting .170 with four homers and 20 RBIs in limited at-bats.

The 35-year-old infielder returned for his second stint with the team in March, agreeing to a $1 million, one-year deal. He had just 135 at-bats in 78 games and was designated for assignment.

“Kind of a punch in the gut,” Reynolds said. “It’s tough to be consistent when you don’t get consistent at-bats. I knew the role I signed up for; I knew what my role was on this team. It was just one of those things where I could never get going.”

A 13-year veteran, Reynolds said he will return home to assess whether or not he’d attempt to continue his playing career. He was a key member of Colorado’s 2017 wild-card team, hitting 30 homers with 97 RBIs to guide the team to the first postseason appearance in eight seasons.

NEW YORK YANKEES

When first hit by a pitch from Colorado’s Chad Bettis, slugger Luke Voit was scared. He remembered when Giancarlo Stanton’s jaw was broken by Milwaukee’s Mike Fiers five years ago.

“I thought broken jaw. My teeth were going to be all scattered everywhere,” Voit said Sunday. “I grabbed my face. So I was like, ‘Oh, oh.’ … But then, it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Just a scary thing.”

Voit was back in the lineup on Sunday.

Voit said his jaw was “super sore” when he awoke, but after icing there was only a little swelling. He said it felt as if he had been punched, and there was a slight cut on his chin. Concussion tests were negative.

TAMPA BAY RAYS

Oft-injured center fielder Kevin Kiermaier was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left thumb, and outfielder was recalled Guillermo Heredia from Class AAA Durham.

Kiermaier is hopeful of missing just a couple of weeks after an MRI exam Sunday found the ligament intact and no surgery required.

“It’s the best news I could have received given what happened,” Kiermaier said. “I’m going to be OK. I’m going to be back out on the field sooner than later.”

Kiermaier was hurt diving headfirst into first base on an infield single in the eighth inning of a 2-1, 11-inning loss to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night.
