Texas beats PV, improves to 4-0

AUSTIN — Matt Coleman III had 17 points, Andrew Jones scored 15, and Texas defeated Prairie View A&M 70-56 on Friday night.

Donovan Williams added 13 points for the Longhorns, and Jase Febres scored 10. Jericho Sims grabbed 10 rebounds.

Texas (4-0) has won nine consecutiv­e games, including five while winning the NIT last spring.

Lenell Henry led Prairie View (1-3) with 12 points. Chancellor Ellis scored 11. Ellis, who made 13 3-point baskets in Prairie View’s first three games, was limited to two treys in six attempts by Texas.

BAYLOR 72, TEXAS ST. 63

Jared Butler scored 15 points, Freddie Gillespie had 11 points and 11 rebounds, and the 24thranked Bears (2-1) defeated the Bobcats (2-2) in Waco.

SOUTH DAKOTA 88 TEXAS SOUTHERN 69

Tyler Hagedorn had a career-high 33 points as the Coyotes defeated the Tigers in Vermillion, S.D.

Hagedorn’s eight 3pointers without a miss are a Summit League record. He added eight rebounds and three blocks.

Yahuza Rasas had 12 points for Texas Southern (0-3).

DUKE 74, GEORGIA ST. 63

Tre Jones scored a career-high 31 points, and the No. 2 Blue Devils pulled away to beat the pesky Panthers in Durham, N.C., and improve to 4-0.

Freshman Vernon Carey Jr. added season highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds, and Jack White finished with 10 rebounds.

KANSAS 112, MONMOUTH 57

Isaiah Moss scored 21 points, and the fifthranke­d Jayhawks routed the undersized and outclassed Hawks in Lawrence, Kan.

Moss, who missed the opener against Duke because of an injury, was 5-of-6 from beyond the arc as Kansas (2-1) ran its home winning streak to 23. The streak is the third-longest in the nation behind Tennessee (28) and Gonzaga (25).

Paul Scruggs scored 14 points and made a layup with 11.6 seconds left, helping the No. 21 Musketeers hold off the Bears in Cincinnati.

Freshman star Cole Anthony had 28 points to help the sixth-ranked Tar Heels defeat the Bulldogs in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Fellow freshman Armando Bacot posted his first double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for North Carolina, which shot 50 percent after halftime to build a double-digit lead after leading just 30-27 at the break.

Jessika Carter had career highs with 25 points and 18 rebounds, and the No. 10 Bulldogs set a school record for points in a game in a rout of the Racers in Starkville, Miss.

Rickea Jackson had 16 points for Mississipp­i State (3-0), while Yemiyah Morris added 14 points off the bench.

Akienreh Johnson scored a career-high 21 points, Naz Hillmon had 14 points, and the 24thranked Wolverines beat the Golden Flashes in the Akron Classic at Akron, Ohio.

Freshman Maria Alvarez scored a season-best 20 points, hitting 3-pointers for the 25th-ranked Bulls in a victory over the visiting Rams.
