LETTER FROM THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce (GHWCC) is honored to present the 2019 Greater Houston Women’s Hall of Fame ICONS and Inductees. Our 2019 ICONS are Margaret Alkek Williams and Joanne King Herring, who are truly legends in their own time. Our dynamic 2019 Hall of Fame Inductees are Lucy Bremond, Laurel D’Antoni, Marilyn DeMontrond, Marylou Erbland, PhD, Tandra Jackson, Dr. Karen Lu, Elizabeth Lyons Ghrist PhD, Lynn Mathre, Rosanna Moreno, Linda Padon, Rosemary Schatzman, Dancie Ware and Phyllis Williams. These dynamic leaders have spent their lives giving back, so that we and the next generation of Houstonian­s have a better quality of life.

A special thank-you to our Honorary Chair, Winell Herron, and to our Gala Chair, April Bailey for helping to make this Gala one of our most memorable, along with our Gala committee and volunteers. Because of you and our sponsors, we are able to give these amazing women their rightful place in history.

Cognizant of our role to empower ours and the next generation, proceeds from the Greater Houston Women’s Hall of Fame Gala support the GHWCC’s diverse work in our community. Our programs include the following: Women on Board, an initiative to increase the number of women serving on corporate boards; LAUNCH Institute, a program to help women entreprene­urs start and/ or expand their business, stabilize and increase their incomes, and provides valuable resources including opportunit­ies for access to capital; The Women’s Health Network of the Texas Medical Center, which educates women on wellness to decrease absenteeis­m, decrease insurance costs and increase productivi­ty; The Government­al Affairs Committee, which represents our strong voice with our legislator­s as women have the majority voting bloc in Harris, Montgomery and Fort Bend Counties; STEAM Town USA, an initiative to increase the exposure of third grade girls to math and science through Science, Technology, Engineerin­g, Arts & Math (STEAM) concepts, improve grades and graduation rates, and encourage girls to pursue STEAM careers; and, of course, our scholarshi­p program providing scholarshi­ps for deserving female students graduating from Aldine, Conroe, Ft. Bend, Houston, Spring, and Spring Branch School Districts to attend a Texas college of their choice.
