A&M’s Blair wins 800th

COLLEGE STATION — Chennedy Carter scored 23 points, two other players had double-doubles, and No. 11 Texas A&M gave Gary Blair his 800th win as a head coach with a 72-43 victory over Houston on Sunday.

Blair, who took over the Aggies in 2003 after stops at Stephen F. Austin and Arkansas, is the 11th Division I coach to reach that milestone and is the fifth active one. His teams have been to 24 NCAA Tournament­s, 13 straight, and the Aggies won the national championsh­ip in 2011.

Ciera Johnson had 16 points and 10 rebounds and N’dea Jones 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Aggies (9-1). Kayla Wells added 11 points. Carter, a junior, surpassed 1,700 points for her career.

Dorian Branch, Dymond Gladney and Tatyana Hill had 10 points apiece for the Cougars (5-6).

Blair joins Tara VanDerveer (1,075), Geno Auriemma (1,070), C. Vivian Stringer (1,028) and Muffet McGraw (928) as the only active coaches with 800 wins. He has 323 losses.

STANFORD 71, OHIO ST. 52

Haley Jones had 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists to help the No. 1 Cardinal beat the visiting Buckeyes. Kiana Williams, Lexi Hull and Fran Belibi each added 13 points for Stanford (9-0).

LOUISVILLE 67, KENTUCKY 66

Kylee Shook scored five consecutiv­e points to put the No. 7 Cardinals ahead, and Louisville (10-1) withstood a late charge by the 14th-ranked Wildcats (10-1) for a hard-fought victory in Lexington, Ky.

FLORIDA ST. 74, ST. JOHN’S 70

Nausia Woolfolk scored a season-high 25 points, Kiah Gillespie had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and the No. 8 Seminoles held off the visiting Red Storm to improve to 10-0.

NORTH CAROLINA ST. 62, ELON 49

Elissa Cunane scored 28 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the ninth-ranked Wolfpack overcame a sluggish opening three quarters to defeat the visiting Phoenix and extended their start to 10-0.

UCLA 68, PACIFIC 57

Japreece Dean and Michaela Onyenwere each scored 19 points, and Charisma Osborne added 17 to lead the No. 10 Bruins (9-0) over the visiting Tigers.

RICE 77, PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 55

Erica Ogwumike had 25 points and 14 rebounds, and the Owls (5-4) routed the Lady Panthers (2-7) at Tudor Fieldhouse.

TEXAS TECH 59 HOUSTON BAPTIST 51

Alexis Tucker had 16 points, Chrislyn Carr added 14, and the Lady Raiders (7-0) held off the Huskies (4-5) in Lubbock.
