Boys

Christian Jackson, Fort Bend Marshall

Notable: Jackson had two intercepti­ons — one he returned for a 28-yard touchdown — and seven tackles, a pass breakup and blocked punt in Saturday’s 55-21 vicotry over Boerne Champion in the Class 5A Division II state semifinal.

What Jackson said: “Coach ( James) Williams always tells me to be ready. He said I have to have that dog mentality, but I told him I’ve always had that dog mentality for him. He said, ‘Go ahead and show me.’ I proved it to him Saturday.”

Other nominees

C.J. Guidry, Shadow Creek: Guidry had three catches for 28 yards and one touchdown and an 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in a 45-21 win over San Antonio Wagner.

Zach Evans, North Shore: Evans only needed the second half to rush for 176 yards and two scores on 16 carries in a 49-38 win over Lake Travis.

Malachai Jones, Westfield: Westfield fell to Guyer 35-17 in the state semifinals, but Jones caught three passes for 100 yards and one touchdown.

Girls

Aleighyah Fontenot, Ridge Point

Notable: The junior, who recently surpassed 1,000 career points, scored 20 points in Friday’s 73-60 win over Hitchcock. Fontenot is averaging 17.1 points per game for the TABC 20thranked Panthers this season.

What coach Mike

Vitek said: “She can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. Pretty much anywhere on the court, if she’s open, she’s got the green light to shoot it and it’s been that way since she was a freshman. She’s really started to improve her defense, which is really helping us a lot.”

Other nominees

Alexis Clayborne, Clear Falls: In a 66-39 win over La Porte, Clayborne collected 16 points and 11 rebounds, including seven on the defensive glass.

Macy Granville, Fort Bend Christian: The freshman’s 13-point effort in a 58-26 win over Spring Frassati helped extend Fort Bend Christian’s winning streak, which now stands at 10.

Jada Grigsby, Hightower: Grigsby tallied 13 points and six steals in a 61-29 win over Willowridg­e and five points and six more steals in a 45-41 win over Angleton.
