Longhorns name Ohio State’s Yurcich offensive coordinator
Ohio State passing coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich has been named Texas’ new offensive coordinator, the school announced Sunday evening.
Yurcich, 44, had been linked to the job for some time, and multiple sources last week confirmed the deal was done. Coach Tom Herman indicated as much on Friday during an Alamo Bowl press conference when he said, “I can’t tell you much other than pleased the way that it went.”
Yurcich is familiar with the Big 12, having spent six seasons (2013-18) as Oklahoma State’s offensive coordinator. Prior to that he led a prolific offense at Division II Shippensburg (2011-12), where he coached quarterback Zach Zulli, winner of the Harlon Hill trophy as the top player in DII.
Yurcich has coached a few prodigious quarterbacks during his career, including Oklahoma State All-American Mason Rudolph and Ohio State Heisman finalist Justin Fields. The Buckeyes this season owned one of the nation’s most explosive offenses, ranking fifth in total offense (529.9 yards), fifth in passing efficiency (180.51) and third in scoring offense (46.9).
