German draws 81-game penalty

-

Domingo German, the young pitcher who led the Yankees in victories last season, will be suspended until early June under Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy.

The league announced that German, 27, had accepted an 81-game suspension stemming from an incident in September involving German and his girlfriend, with whom he has at least one child, at his residence in Yonkers, N.Y. No criminal charges were filed against German, who has agreed not to appeal the suspension.

German was placed on administrative leave last Sept. 19 as MLB began an investigation and he did not appear in any regular season or postseason games for the rest of the year. He was held out of 18 games during the investigation, making him ineligible for the Yankees’ first 63 games. The Yankees’ 64th game is scheduled for June 5.

The Angels and catcher Jason Castro have agreed to a $6.85 million, one-year contract, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.

The 32-year-old Castro was an All-Star with Houston in 2013 and has a strong defensive reputation.

The White Sox and Luis Robert agreed to a $50 million, six-year contract, clearing the way for the prized outfielder to open the season in the majors.

The deal, which also includes club options for 2026 and 2027, removes the incentive for the White Sox to keep the 22-year-old Cuban off their opening day roster to limit his service time and delay his eventual free agency.

Robert combined to hit .328 with 32 home runs, 92 RBIs, 108 runs and 36 stolen bases last season in the minors at three levels.
