Visitors enjoy plenty of fun options this season in Galveston
It’s getting warmer, which means the beach and everything Galveston has to offer are going to be ready for visitors.
Caitlin Carnes, public relations manager, Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau, said whether families are returning to Galveston or visiting for the first time, there is a lot to look forward to with all beach parks opening starting March 7.
“Stewart Beach will be debuting its brand new 30-foot water slide as well as hosting the Galveston Family Beach Challenge on March 22,” Carnes said.
Popular attractions such as Moody Gardens, Pleasure Pier, Schlitterbahn and the city’s historic district all have activities planned.
Moody Gardens has a stellar lineup of interactive and educational offerings that include Aquaman: the 4D Experience, 20,0000
Leagues Under the Sea and Expedition Chesapeake. Thrill-seeking families can check out Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier amusement park and Schlitterbahn, Galveston’s indoor water park.
Galveston’s historic downtown will also be hosting some free events this spring break starting on March 7 with an Art Walk from 6-8 p.m. and a screening of Aladdin at Saengerfest Park. “Galveston Island loves history,” Carnes said. “There are many museums and tours that tells stories of Galveston and beyond.”
The Bryan Museum will feature its Destination Moon exhibit that takes guests on a journey celebrating our lengthy fascination with the moon with art and artifacts. The Texas Seaport Museum will show visitors what it’s like to be a seafaring crew member aboard the Tallship Elissa with its spring break workshop series. Galveston also offers plenty of guided and self-guided tours for those looking to immerse themselves in the culture and history of the island.
Also on March 27-28, the Bon Temps Rouler Cajun Throwdown will be held at the Tin Cup’s Caddyshack at 9020 Stewart Road. This second annual event features a crawfish cook-off, Cajun cuisine, Louisiana Cajun music and a great family atmosphere. More information is available at www.btrcajunthrowdown.com.
