Vikings deal star WR Diggs to Bills
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills are set to acquire wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, a person with direct knowledge of the move confirmed to The Associated Press on Monday night.
The Bills agreed to give up four draft picks, including their first-round selection this year (22nd overall), to land a fifth-year player who has topped 1,000 yards receiving in each of the past two seasons, the person said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade cannot be completed until the start of the league year Wednesday.
In Diggs, the Bills gave third-year quarterback Josh Allen an established wideout on an offense that finished 24th in the NFL in yards gained last season and 26th in yards passing.
Earlier Monday, the Vikings and quarterback Kirk Cousins agreed to a two-year, $66 million contract extension.
Jones exits Dallas to join Dolphins
Miami made Byron Jones the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback, surpassing his new teammate, Xavien Howard. The Dolphins also reached agreements with linebacker Kyle Van Noy and defensive end Shaq Lawson, and swung a deal with offensive lineman Ereck Flowers.
Jones agreed to a fiveyear deal worth more than $76.5 million, a person familiar with the negotiations confirmed. The agreement surpasses the contract the Dolphins gave Howard last May when he signed the most lucrative deal ever for a cornerback.
Jones has only two career interceptions and none since 2017, but he has missed just one game in his five seasons, all with Dallas. He was a first-round pick by the Cowboys in 2015.
Mariota, Raiders agree on contract
The Las Vegas Raiders have agreed on a contract with free agent quarterback Marcus Mariota to provide an experienced backup behind starter Derek Carr.
A person familiar with the talks said the Raiders reached a deal with Mariota, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 draft. Mariota lost his starting job in Tennessee last season. The Titans acquired Ryan Tannehill from Miami last offseason and changed quarterbacks in October before going on a run to the AFC title game.
