RETAIL REOPENING

Texas Health and Human Services offers these guidelines as nonessential retail stores begin to reopen Friday:

Employees

• Must understand how to clean and sanitize where you work, proper hand hygiene (wash with soap for 20 seconds) and respiratory etiquette (cough or sneeze into a tissue or into your elbow/ sleeve).

• Must be screened for illness or COVID-19 symptoms before entering your workplace.

• Upon arrival at work, wash or sanitize your hands.

• Must wear a face mask while working and stay 6 feet away from others.

Customers

• Order and pay online or by phone and pickup curbside or wait for delivery. Do not enter a store.

• Payment should be done over the phone or online.

• If picking up purchased items, they should be delivered by a store employee to the backseat or trunk of your vehicle with minimal personal contact.

PREVENTION

The gradual reopening of stores prompts this reminder of the best ways to prevent COVID-19 infection:

Hands:

Wash hands with soap for 20 seconds often. If soap and water aren’t available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.

Cough/sneeze:

Use a tissue and throw it away. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or elbow sleeve.

Touch:

Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

Clean:

Disinfect high-touch surfaces such as buttons, handles and knobs.

Contact:

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet from others in public.

Mask:

Use some sort of mask or cloth face covering when you are in public.

DONATIONS

Medical equipment:

Fort Bend County Judge KP George is asking that people to donate new, FDAapproved Personal Protection Equipment to coordinated dropoff sites so they can be distributed to hospitals and health care facilities, first responders, public offices and volunteers. Requested items include N95-rated masks, face shields, disposable surgical masks, disposable gloves, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, disposable gowns and generic medical supplies. HEROES OF COVID-19

Houstonians are showing courage and resilience — coming together to help those vulnerable and in need. These everyday heroes make Houston strong, and we want to celebrate them. Nominate the heroes on the frontline in your community: doctors, nurses, grocery store workers, business owners and volunteers. Send your nominee’s name and contact to houstonheroes@chron.com and tell us about your hero.
