Houston native Levi releases quarantine song and video
The U.S. version of “The X Factor” is best remembered for giving the world Fifth Harmony (who didn’t even win). But fans likely remember another starin-the-making: Josh Levi.
The Houston native was just 15 when he made the Season 3 top 10.
Before that, he was in local productions at the Ensemble Theatre, Main Street Theater, Houston Family Arts Center and Theatre Under The Stars. He also had a recurring role on the Texas-set drama “Friday Night Lights.”
Levi is now 21 and, after a brief stint as part of a group, is going at it solo.
He just released a new “quarantine” song and video, “If the World” that presents him in an edgy, mature light.
It’s a rock-inflected track that calls to mind Justin Bieber and The Weeknd.
Levi filmed the video on an iPhone, in his room, with the help of his sister. It’s radio-ready but still manages a unique sound.
Levi had a few clear, simple goals for his post “X Factor” career: No. 1 hits and Grammys best new artist, he said confidently after winning. “Whatever it takes to get to that point.”
He finished in the top 10 on the strength of his charismatic vocals, slick stage presence and charming personality. He amassed one of the show’s most fervent fanbases.
What did the show do for him?
“I think mentally I’m stronger. Emotionally I’m stronger. Even physically and vocally, it was a challenge. Things that I would have never thought I could do I did on the show,” he said.
After moving to Los Angeles, what did he miss? “They don’t have Shipley’s in LA. It’s so sad.”
“If the World” previews an EP due in May. Levi will also join us soon for an upcoming Chron Concerts performance.
