Here are some of the new films being released for streaming, rental or purchase this week.

“18 Regali”

A woman who passes away from an incurable disease finds a way to stay close to her daughter by giving her a gift on her birthday up until her 18th. That’s the story of this Italian drama from director Francesco Amato, who earned recognitio­n for 2012 film “Cosimo e Nicole.” Unrated. Video-on-demand beginning May 8.

“The Beer Jesus From America”

What happens when brewer Greg Koch decides to move to Germany to be the first American to build, own and operate a craft brewery in Europe? Let’s just say he’s not always welcomed with open arms, and the culture clash is the fuel for this documentar­y from director Matt Sweetwood, who made “Beerland.” Koch and Sweetwood will livestream commentary during a special virtual screening of the film.

“The Bookseller­s”

Parker Posey, Gay Telese and Fran Lebowitz are some of the talking heads in this documentar­y about the New York rarebook world.

“Capone”

Director Josh Trank returns from the disaster that was “Fantastic Four” with this biopic about crime king Al Capone’s later years starring Tom Hardy. Rated R. Video-on-demand May 12-14. “Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedeli­cs” Will Forte, Sarah Silverman, Rosie Perez, Carrie Fisher, Nick Offerman and Adam Horovitz are part of this documentar­y looking at the pros, cons and the history of hallucinog­ens. Unrated. Streaming on Netflix beginning May 11.

“How to Build a Girl”

Gemma Arterton, Michael Sheen, Chris O’Dowd and Emma Thompson star in this British comedy about a teenage girl from a small town who moves to London to be a music critic. Rated R. Video-on-demand beginning May 8.

“Intrigo: Dear Agnes”

A murder mystery about a woman who asks her friend to murder her husband in any manner she sees fit.

Rated R. Video-on-demand beginning May 8.

“Lost Transmissi­ons”

Simon Pegg, Alexandra Daddario and Juno Temple star in this drama about a music producer who goes off his treatment for schizophre­nia, forcing his friends to chase him all over LA’s music scene.

“Porno”

Comedy-horror film about five teens, working at a movie theater in a small, conservati­ve town, who discover a strange film in the basement and unleash a succubus.

“Redcon-1”

This action-horror film centers on an elite military squad that has to rescue a scientist who’s the only person with the cure that could save mankind from a terrible virus.

“Spaceship Earth”

Matt Wolf’s documentar­y takes a look at Biosphere 2, a giant replica of the Earth’s ecosystem built in 1991.

“Valley Girl”

No, not that “Valley Girl” from nearly 30 years ago. This is a musical update of the original set to a new-wave soundtrack. Rated PG-13. Video-on-demand beginning May 8. “Vivarium”

Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg star in this science-fiction tale about a couple, while on the hunt for the perfect home, who

find themselves trapped in a labyrinthl­ike neighborho­od of identical houses. It has been a bit of a hit on the festival circuit, picking up a couple of nods at Cannes.

“What She Said:

The Art of Pauline Kael”

Pioneering film critic Pauline Kael is the subject of this documentar­y about her life and influence. Unrated. Streaming at mfah.org/ virtualexp­erience May 13-19.

“The Wrong Missy”

David Spade and Vanilla Ice are in the cast of this comedy about a guy who sends an invite to his corporate retreat to the woman of his dreams … but then realizes he sent it to the wrong person. Unrated. Begins streaming on Netflix May 13.
