BARGAIN TOUT
2018 Brigaldara Soave
Overall score: 18.9 (8.9 for quality, 10 for value)
The panel: Gave it a unanimous recommendation with three scores of at least 9. “Clean, crisp, light and fresh.”
My score: 9.1. The winery is best known for excellent Amarones, but this satisfying white is well worth discovering.
Vineyards/winemaking: The hand-harvested garganega fruit is grown on a 5-acre plot in the hills of Italy’s Marcellise, east of Verona. Vinification was done at controlled temperatures in stainless-steel tanks.
Alcohol: 12.5 percent
Winemaker notes: “Fresh and fruity with notes of chamomile, peach and citrus.”
Critical acclaim: Vinous gave it an 88.
Pairings: Mussels steamed in white wine, garlic and parsley; roasted zucchini stuffed with goat cheese
Price: $18.99 at Spec’s
