Officials modify Fourth of July beach closures
Less than a day after announcing it would close beaches in Bolivar Peninsula for the July 4 weekend, Galveston County modified its plan and will keep peninsula beaches open to foot traffic at designated times.
Officials announced Thursday the county would now accommodate those who have booked vacation rentals on Bolivar Peninsula by providing limited beach access.
Peninsula beaches, including Crystal Beach, will be closed from 5 a.m. Friday to just after midnight Monday, except to foot traffic only from 7 to 11 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. daily.
Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta announced that island access will be closed from 11 a.m. to midnight Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Residents and those renting beach houses and RV campgrounds will be allowed access with proof of residency/rental.
