Brantley, Devenski could rejoin club soon
Outfielder Michael Brantley and pitcher Chris Devenski could join the Astros on their road trip to Denver and San Diego that begins Wednesday, manager Dusty Baker said.
Brantley, who went on the 10-day injured list retroactively to Aug. 12 with what the team described as right quadriceps discomfort, is eligible to return Saturday, when the Astros will be in San Diego.
“Brantley’s feeling better, but he’s not doing any activities,” Baker said. “We’re trying to let his body heal naturally. He’s been doing all kinds of treatments and all different kinds of things, but sometimes you just need a natural body healing.
“Hopefully, Brantley might be back on this trip. We really need him and his presence as well as his bat, on the field in the dugout.”
Baker said Devenski also might join the Astros on the road trip. The righthander has not pitched since the opening series and was placed on the injured list in late July with elbow soreness.
