ALLEN — No. 6 Allen did what it has done at Eagle Stadium since it opened back in 2012: win.

The Allen Eagles defeated No. 9 Atascocita 52-27 in the Tom Landry Classic on Friday night in the battle of the Eagles.

Atascocita head coach Craig Stump wants to play the best of the best in order to win a state championship. Sometimes that means making the trip to play the best.

“It was a good trip,” Stump said. “I think we handled it well. This is why it’s good for this young team to play in these types of games. If they hold their selves accountable, this is the level that you need to play at in order to win a state championship.

“The more you can do that, the more they understand. Maybe they think now that I need to work on some little things to get better. I think you can gain a lot in order to be successful.”

Allen extended its regular season winning streak to 77 games. Allen will look to tie North Shore’s 78- game regular season winning streak next week when the Eagles take on Cedar Hill on the road next Friday night.

It was the first time both perennial powers in Class 6A met in school history, and it was Atascocita’s first game in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Both offenses were on display, combining for 1,103 yards.

The Atascocita Eagles had a total of 579 with 36 first downs, and Allen had 524 yards with 22 first downs.

Atascocita led in rushing with 249 yards to Allen’s 204 yards on the ground.

Atascocita, a young team with sophomores and juniors playing varsity, hurt itself with penalties and turnovers on offense, with two fumbles, an interception and 10 penalties for 68 yards.

“We had pre- snap penalties and the turnovers were from seniors, so that’s not good,” Stump said. “The pre- snap penalties you can’t have them, they kill drives. There’s no excuses for them but like I told them: If you hold yourself accountable we will get better from it in the long run.”

Allen ( 2- 0) led early and often in the game and never trailed.

The Allen Eagles jumped out to a 14- 0 lead after Jordan Johnson ran in a 2-yard touchdown then quarterback General Booty found receiver Blaine Green for a deep 47-yard touchdown pass.

Atascocita (0-1) responded by driving down the field and scoring on Quincy Thompson’s 2yard touchdown on the ground. Thompson finished the game with 11 carries for 45 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson added another 2yard rushing touchdown to go up 21-7.

The Allen Eagles added two more touchdowns with Jaylen Jenkins scoring at the 1-yard line and Booty connecting with Touray Green for a 32-yard TD pass.

Allen went into the locker room with a 35-7 lead.

Booty finished the first half perfect, going 9- of-9 for 200 yards and three touchdowns.

He continued in the second half on Allen’s first offensive drive throwing a dime down the right sideline to Blaine Green for a 53-yard TD pass.

Booty finished the game 11of-12 with 260 yards and three touchdowns.

Allen wide receiver Bryson Green had six receptions with 159 yards and a touchdown.

Junior Gavin Sessionmade his first start at quarterback for Atascocita and used his dualthreat abilities.

“He made some plays that he canmake, that was good to see,” Stump said of his new starting quarterback. “He’s a strong competitor and moving forward that’s going to help him. There were four or five routine plays that he should be able to make, and we will get that fixed and he will get better. But overall, he competes, and he gives us the chance to be good on offense.”

Sessionmade several plays on the ground and through the air.

He recorded his first passing touchdown of the year, connecting with Chase Sowell for 9-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Session finished the game going 28- of-50 for 330 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

On the ground, Session had 34 carries for 168 yards.

Atascocita wide receiver Landen King had 11 receptions for 119 yards and six receptions for 107 yards.
