Ravens OC: It’s ‘nothing new’ for defenses to call out plays

-

Responding to reigning MVP Lamar Jackson’s comment Wednesday that defenses have been calling out the Baltimore Ravens’ plays, offensive coordinator Greg Roman said that was part of the game.

“Calling out plays on the defense is nothing new,” Roman said in a video conference call Thursday. “I can talk about Ed Reed and Ray Lewis; every play, they’re trying to guess what play you’re going to run, based on what they’re seeing. That’s the chess match.

“That’s kind of where it gets interesting, because if you’re not good at anything, you have no tendencies. So you really want to work to be good at everything.”

The Ravens ranked first in the NFL in rushing and passing efficiency in 2019, but this year they’re only 23rd overall (fifth in rushing and 23rd in passing).

Tate could miss another game

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate has a new obstacle that might prevent him from playing Sunday, and it has nothing to do with Joe Judge’s wrath.

Tate injured his knee late in practice Thursday at MetLife Stadium and was listed as limited on the team’s injury report. He spent the period after the workout being evaluated by team trainers. While early indications suggested it wasn’t a serious injury and he simply banged the knee during a drill, Tate was scheduled to undergo an MRI and other tests as precautions.

The injury came during a week when Tate returned to his former role in the offense after spending last week demoted to the scout team after complaining about not getting enough targets in a loss to Tampa Bay.

Hard-luck 49ers put safety on IR

The San Francisco 49ers placed safety Jaquiski Tartt on injured reserve and said he’ll miss the rest of the season with a turf-toe injury he suffered in last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The six-year veteran will be a free agent this winter, so might have played his final game for the 49ers.
