Evee ties record as Rice tops UTSA

Travis Evee had a career-high 36 points as Rice topped UTSA 95-86 on Friday at Tudor Fieldhouse in the first Conference USA game of the season for both teams.

Evee made eight 3pointers to tie a program record. He finished 13 of 19 from the field, missing five 3-pointers.

Quincy Olivari had 21 points and seven rebounds for Rice (7-2, 1-0 Conference USA). Chris Mullins added 14 points, and Max Fiedler had 12 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.

Keaton Wallace had 21 points and eight rebounds for the Roadrunner­s (4-4, 0-1). Jhivvan Jackson added 18 points and Jacob Germany had 17.

Elsewhere:

• The Pac-12 postponed Saturday’s men’s basketball matchup between Arizona State and Washington due to COVID-19 issues within the Sun Devils’ program.

The Pac-12 said it will work to try and reschedule the games.

Krzyzewski sidelined: Mike Krzyzewski won’t coach No. 20 Duke when it faces No. 18 Florida State on Saturday after coming into close contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19.

Women

• Nancy Mulkey scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Lauren

Schwartz scored 19 points as Rice defeated UTSA 78-53 at the Convocatio­n Center in San Antonio.

Karrington Donald led the Roadrunner­s (2-4, 0-1) with 19 points.

• Haley Jones had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Lexie Hull added 13 points and the top-ranked Stanford overwhelme­d No. 6 Arizona 81-54 at Tucson, Ariz.

The Cardinal (8-0, 5-0 Pac-12) beat No. 10 UCLA on Monday and kept rolling in their second top-10 showdown in four days.

• Taylor Mikesell made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points, and No. 8 Oregon remained undefeated with a 92-69 victory over USC.

It was Oregon’s 27th straight victory, the longest active winning streak in the nation. The Ducks (8-0, 6-0 Pac-12) have also won 24 consecutiv­e conference games.

• Dana Evans scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half, and No. 2 Louisville rallied for a 74-64 victory over Northern Kentucky at Louisville.

Olivia Cochran scored 13 points and Elizabeth Dixon had 12 in Louisville’s first game since Dec.

9. The Cardinals’ schedule has been upended by numerous COVID-19-related cancellati­ons and postponeme­nts.

Louisville (6-0) also got a double-double from Kianna Smith, who finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

• Marquette women’s basketball has paused activities because of a positive COVID-19 test.

As a result, Marquette has postponed its scheduled games Sunday against No. 18 DePaul, Wednesday against Creighton and Jan. 9 against Villanova.
