Northern Illinois fires men’s coach
Northern Illinois fired men’s basketball coach Mark Montgomery, the school announced Sunday.
The Huskies are off to a 1-7 start this season, their only victory coming against winless Chicago State. Montgomery has had just two winning seasons at Northern Illinois.
He is the longest-tenured coach at Northern Illinois, with a 124-170 record in 10 years. He is second on the program’s all-time coaching wins list behind John McDougal. In other news:
• No. 2 Louisville’s home women’s basketball game against North Carolina set for Tuesday night has been postponed.
The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the postponement Sunday night after a positive COVID-19 test, quarantining and contact tracing within the Tar Heels program.
The game was originally postponed Dec. 13.
The league also announced that No. 22 Syracuse’s home game Thursday against Virginia, and Louisville’s trip to Florida State next weekend have also been postponed, with both the Cavaliers and Seminoles remaining in COVID-19 protocols following announcements of positive tests.
The league has adjusted the schedule to have Clemson visit Louisville next Sunday as a replacement game for the Cardinals.
