Chargers move on from Lynn
COSTA MESA, Calif. — A four-game winning streak at the end of the season wasn’t enough to save Anthony Lynn’s job with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Owner Dean Spanos on Monday fired Lynn after four seasons. Lynn led the franchise to the playoffs in 2018 but Los Angeles had losing records the last two seasons.
“I’m not sure there is another person in this league more respected as a human being than Anthony,” Chargers owner Dean Spanos said in a statement. “This is a results-driven business, and simply put, the results of the past two years have fallen short of expectations.”
Hired by the Chargers in January 2017, Lynn was the first Black head coach in franchise history. He went 34-32 with Los Angeles but just 12-20 over the last two seasons. Lynn had one year remaining on his contract.
15-loss Jaguars fireMarrone
The Jacksonville Jaguars have fired coach Doug Marrone, a little more than 12 hours after ending the season with a 15th consecutive loss.
Itwas a movemany thought owner Shad Khan should have made at the end of the 2019 season. But Khan gave Marrone another chance to make Jacksonville a playoff contender for the second time in four years.
Marrone went 24-43 in four seasons in Jacksonville, falling a few plays shy of the franchise’s first Super Bowl in 2017 and then miring near the bottom of the league since. The Jaguars dropped 21 of Marrone’s final 24 games, including 15 by double digits.

Odds and ends
John Elway announced a major change in the Denver Broncos’ operations, saying he’ll hire a general manager who will report to him but have final say on the draft, free agency and roster. Elway, who has been GM since 2011, will remain as president of football operations in 2021, the final year of his contract. … The Buffalo Bills signed receiver Kenny Stills to their practice squad, adding valuable experienced depth in time for the playoffs. Stills is an eighthyear player who was cut by the Texans in late November. … An MRI performed on Mike Evans’ injured left knee showed no structural damage and the receiver’s status for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ first playoff game in 13 years on Saturday is day to day.
