1955-2021
Scott Keith Rhoden passed away peacefully on January 2, 2021, surrounded by family and friends following a sudden, yet brief battle with cancer. Not one to miss a party, Scott celebrated New Year’s Eve at home on hospice care, enjoying the presence of his loved ones.
Born in Sacramento, CA on February 8, 1955 to Marlene Preble Rhoden and Don Delano Rhoden, it didn’t take long for Scott to make his way to his forever home in Texas. Scott was a lifelong resident of Houston, where he lived, worked, and loved life. His favorite time of year was Fall, as it marked the opening of hunting season and the kick-off of football season. An avid outdoorsman, Scott enjoyed bird and deer hunting and held a fondness in his heart for hunts in Alice, TX with many lifelong friends. In his adolescence, Scott excelled as an athlete in several sports and, later in life, enjoyed coaching youth sports and leading scouts as well. He was a diehard Houston sports fan, and he especially loved football. On any weekend during football season, you could find Scott grilling up big feasts, kicking back in his recliner, and watching games with family and friends. Super Bowl parties were an absolute must in his home, and he was always the entertainer. His quick wit and no-nonsense humor will forever remain Rhoden classics.
Scott’s greatest accomplishments in life were his two children, Ryan and Lindsay. They were his absolute pride and joy. There was nothing he enjoyed more than joking, laughing, acting like a panda, and spending time with the two of them. He shared his love of sports and hunting with Ryan. Lindsay followed in Scott’s footsteps and was quite the athlete herself. Lindsay also helped mold Scott into a Red Raiders fan, as did two other special women in his life, Shellen and Karen, as all three graduated from Texas Tech.
Scott lovingly cared for his first wife, Shellen, mother of Ryan and Lindsay, until her death from ALS in 2010. The empathy and compassion he showed during this time are a direct reflection of his huge heart and character. After grieving this tremendous loss, Scott found love again and married his second wife Karen in 2013. Scott and Karen shared a mutual fondness of the outdoors. He taught Karen how to hunt and gave her an appreciation of nature and respect of wildlife. Karen and Scott cherished the love and peace they felt being outdoors together. They enjoyed spending quality time with their four adult children and hosting frequent gatherings at their home with friends and extended family.
Scott will be dearly missed by his much-loved family and friends. He is predeceased by his first wife, Shellen Rhoden, his father, Don Delano Rhoden, and motherin-law and father-in-law, Maurice and Tom Ryan. He is survived by his wife, Karen, children, Ryan and Lindsay Rhoden, his step-children, Stephen and Sarah Gowdy, mother, Marlene Rhoden, brother Shawn and wife Debbie, sister Leslie Winzeler and husband Jim, brother Spencer Rhoden. Also surviving Scott are mother-in-law, Barbara White, father-in-law Russell White, sister-in-law Kristin Janger and husband Jay, sister-in-law Lisa Edwards and husband Steve, and brother-in-law, Tom Ryan and wife Shelly, along with several nephews and nieces.

Services will be held in the Sanctuary at Grace Presbyterian Church on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. 10221 Ella Lee Lane, Houston, TX 77042.
