No. 2 Baylor thumps Oklahoma to improve to 10-0

WACO — MaCio Teague scored 17 points, Matthew Mayer had 16, and No. 2 Baylor improved to 10-0 for only the fifth time in team history with a 76-61 win over Oklahoma on Wednesday night.

Teague had eight points with two 3-pointers in the game’s first four minutes, helping push Baylor to an early 16-2 lead. Mayer had consecutiv­e baskets 33 seconds apart to ignite a half-ending 14-2 run after the Sooners (6-3, 2-2 Big 12) had moved within five late in the first half.

The Bears’ season-opening, 10-game winning streak, all by at least 11 points, includes their first three Big 12 games.

NO. 21DUKE 83 BOSTON COLLEGE 82

Wendell Moore Jr. scored a season-high 25 points to help the host Blue Devils hold off the Eagles while Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski was sidelined because of COVID-19 protocols.

The sophomore had been off to a rough start to the season but had a huge performanc­e for Duke (4-2, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), which had to rally from 16 down before halftime in its first game in three weeks.

Associate coach Jon Scheyer led the program Wednesday.

NO. 9 TENNESSEE 79 ARKANSAS 74

Josiah-Jordan James and Victor Bailey scored 17 points apiece, and the host Volunteers hit eight free throws in the final minute to beat the Razorbacks.

John Fulkerson scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half, and Keon Johnson added 14 for Tennessee (2-1, 8-1 SEC).

Jamie Notae had just five points in the first half, and finished with 19. Jalen Tate had 15 points, Vance Jackson scored 14 and Conner Vanover added 12 for Arkansas (1-2, 9-2).

NO. 10MICHIGAN 82 NO. 16 MINNESOTA 57

Freshman Hunter Dickinson scored a season-high 28 points as the Wolverines remained unbeaten with a win over the Golden Gophers.

Michigan (10-0, 5-0 Big Ten) had a 19-point edge in the second half after leading by just six points after a sloppy first half.

Minnesota (10-3, 3-3) made just 32 percent of its shots.

David Johnson scored 17 points, including a crucial free throw with five seconds left, and the host Cardinals withstood a missed 3-point try at the buzzer, holding off the Hokies in a matchup of unbeaten Atlantic Coast Conference teams.

Johnson made five of 10 shots from the field and five of six from the line. Carlik Jones scored 17 points and Jae’Lyn Withers finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Louisville (8-1, 3-0), which won its fourth consecutiv­e game overall and 17th in a row against the Hokies.

Damien Jefferson scored a season-high 19 points, and the Bluejays (9-2, 5-1 Big East) used a fast start on their way to a win over the visiting Pirates.

NO. 22 VIRGINIA 70 WAKE FOREST 61

Sam Hauser scored 11 of his 16 points during a 28-10 run to open the second half, and the host Cavaliers (6-2, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) returned from a coronaviru­s pause to beat the Demon Deacons.

ABILENE CHRISTIAN 66 HOUSTON BAPTIST 63

Clay Gayman scored 15 points, Reggie Miller made two free throws and forced a turnover in the final eight seconds, and the Wildcats edged the host Huskies.

It was Miller’s only points of the game. He also had three assists. Coryon Mason added 13 points for Abilene Christian (10-2, 2-0 Southland Conference). Joe Pleasant had 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Za-Ontay Boothman had 22 points for Houston Baptist (2-8, 1-1).

POSTPONED GAMES

A game scheduled to be played in Washington on Wednesday night was postponed after a city curfew was imposed because angry supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol. The Atlantic 10 Conference game between George Washington and UMass will be reschedule­d by the league, GW announced.

Elsewhere, the Atlantic Coast Conference has postponed Saturday’s Louisville-Georgia Tech game following positive tests and subsequent quarantini­ng and contact tracing with the Yellow Jackets’ program.

Marshall has postponed a two-game home series with Charlotte scheduled for Friday and Saturday because it does not have enough available players due to the coronaviru­s, contact tracing and injuries.

Women

TULANE 76, HOUSTON 62

Bria Patterson matched her career-high with 17 points and six rebounds, but the host Cougars’ comeback bid came up short against the Green Wave. Houston fell to 5-3 and 2-2 in the American Athletic Conference.

POSTPONED GAMES

No. 7 Arizona’s game at Washington scheduled for Friday has been postponed because of COVID-19 issues within the Huskies program.

No. 3 UConn had another game postponed because of coronaviru­s-related issues. The Huskies, which saw their planned Thursday showdown with No. 6 Baylor canceled after Baylor coach Kim Mulkey tested positive for COVID-19, announced they will not play their scheduled game at Xavier on Jan. 13 because the Musketeers have announced a pause to team activities due to contact tracing.
