VALERIE PEAVEY
1953-2021
Valerie lost her battle to cancer on Saturday, January 3rd, 2021 peacefully and surrounded by her family, at the age of 67. She was a loving mother to her sonsMichael and Brandon. Her pride and joy were her 5 grandchildren Jaycie, Bailey, Katie, Kamryn, and Archer. She also very much loved her daughters in law Chantelle, Shannon, and Kirsten.
Val graduated from New Albany High School in 1972. She met the love of her life, Fred, and they were married in 1973. She worked in the insurance business for many years after taking care of her boys, helping to open and hold the office together, like a she held the family together.
For anyone that knew Val knew that she loved her family more than anything else. From her 2 boys, Michael and Brandon, to her 5 grandkids, Jaycie, Bailey, Katie, Kami, and Archer and beloved daughters in law Chantelle, Shannon, and Kirsten. The grandkids were the apple of her eye though. From watching them as babies, to summertime movie trips and afternoon swims, to volunteering at their schools (Austin Elementary School and Pecan Grove Elementary School), to traveling to South Carolina 2 years in a row to watch volleyball tournaments, she never wanted to miss a moment of their life. Not only did she travel to see sporting events for the grandkids, but she loved to travel with her best friend Denise Schneider, where they would always find “Thelma and Louise” laughter and adventure anywhere they went. Everyone knew her as “Mema” at every turn. Family, friends, teachers, coaches... everyone!! It was her big heart that most will never forget, as she always wanted to take care of everyone and anyone that crossed her path.
All of Val’s friends knew how caring she was and that she would give the shirt off her back if it would help someone.
Val is survived by her childrenMichael Peavey and wife Chantelle, Brandon Peavey and wife Kirsten, daughter Shannon Van Cott, 5 Grandchildren, Jaycie Peavey, Bailey Peavey, Kathryn Peavey, Kamryn, and Archer Peavey. Her stepmother Charlta Hawkins, sister DeniseWest, and brother Richard Hawkins.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Fred, and her parents Raymond and Betty Hawkins.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Bushra Cheema, all of the nurses, and staff in her office for the care and support that they showed Val. We would also like to thank our friends Denise, Paul, Teresa, and John-Paul Schneider for all of the help and support you have shown our family in these trying times. We definitely would not have made it through all of this without you. We love all of you dearly.
We will be having a Celebration of Val’s life on Saturday January 9th between 2-6pm at the Braman Winery at 3421 FM 359 Rd, Richmond, TX 77406. She will then be laid to rest at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky onWednesday, January 13th, 2021 at 2:00 pm. We request that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital in remembrance of Val, as it was something that was dear to her and her late husband’s heart.
