MARY CLAIRE (BERTRAM) BUJNOWSKI
1958-2020
Mary Claire (Bertram) Bujnowski, 62, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully while holding her husband’s hand on December 23, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mary is survived by her husband Stan and their children Alena and Alex, her sisterMarcy Griego, her brother Jim Bertram and his wife Kerry, many nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved dog Boris. Mary was predeceased by her parents Maurice and Romilda Bertram and her brother-in-law Steve Griego. Mary was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and then moved with her family to Albuquerque, NewMexico, in 1971 where she attended St. Pius X High School and the University of NewMexico, graduating with a degree in History. Mary’s career brought her to Houston, Texas, in 1990 where she met her husband Stan and would live the remainder of her life.
Mary was an incredible, engaging person with the ability to converse with anyone, anytime, anywhere. Mary faced many challenges in her life but always managed to face them with courage, strength, and grace. She battled cancer for 16 years, which included three surgeries and numerous rounds of chemo, and always managed to maintain a positive attitude through it all.
Mary’s many passions included museums and art, traveling, camping with friends and family, cooking, and hosting holidays at her home. Mary’s biggest dream was to become aMom. One of her happiest moments in life was the day that dream came true - the day she and Stan returned home from Russia with Alena and Alex. Mary always made sure that “Gotcha Day” (April 7th) was celebrated with the family every year thereafter.
Mary was a loving spouse, mother, daughter, big sister, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, and dear friend and will be painfully missed and remembered by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held later this year at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Houston. Donations may be made inMary’s memory to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
