Mets acquire Lindor from Indians

-

The New York Mets made their first blockbuster deal under the ownership of Steven Cohen, acquiring dynamic, power-hitting shortstop Francisco Lindor from the Cleveland Indians on Thursday in a multiplayer trade.

The deal was announced on the team’s Twitter account.

The Mets will get Lindor, 27, and veteran pitcher Carlos Carrasco, from Cleveland in exchange for talented young shortstops Amed Rosario and Andres Giménez. The Indians also will receive pitching prospect JoshWolf and minor league outfielder Isaiah Greene.

Lindor, a switch-hitter and four-time All-Star, is considered among the best players in the major leagues.

Carrasco, a leukemia survivor who returned to the mound last year after his diagnosis in 2019, will be 34 when the season starts, but he had an impressive 2.91 ERA last year and as recently as 2017 went 18-6 with a 3.29 ERA, placing fourth in the American League Cy Young Award voting. In other baseball news: • Switch-hitting outfielder Greg Allen was acquired by the New York Yankees from the San Diego Padres for lefthander James Reeves.

The 27-year-old Allen has a .239 average with eight homers and 57 RBIs in 557 at-bats and 221 games over four seasons with Cleveland (2017-20) and San Diego (2020). Allen hit .154 with one homer and four RBIs in 26 at-bats over 16 games last year. He was designated for assignment on Dec. 31.

Reeves, 27, is 20-7 with a 2.30 ERA in 12 starts and 125 relief appearances over five minor league seasons. He did not get in a game last year, when the minor league seasons were canceled due to the

coronavirus pandemic.
