Here are some of the new films being released in theaters or for streaming, rental or purchase this week.

“American Dream”

Things turn nasty when two entreprene­urs reject a Russian mobster’s offer of financial backing. Luke Bracey, Nick Stahl and Michiel Huisman star. Unrated. Begins streaming through various platforms Jan. 12.

“Batman: Soul of the Dragon”

Set in the 1970s, this animated but-not-for-kids adventure focuses on a group of students, including Batman, searching for a missing martial-arts teacher. Note that it’s rated R for violence.

“Capturing Lee Miller”

Documentar­y about Lee Miller, a model in the early 20th century who went on to become a photograph­er and war correspond­ent.

“Don’t Tell a Soul”

In this thriller, two teenagers decide to steal money to help their ailing mother but find themselves matching wits with a security guard — all while stuck in a well.

“Four Games in Fall”

Director Julie Marron takes a look at the “Deflategat­e” controvers­y that roiled the NFL in 2014 when New England Patriots quarterbac­k Tom Brady was accused of ordering the deflation of footballs in a championsh­ip game against the Indianapol­is Colts.

“Krack”

Telugu-language action film from India.

“One Night in Miami”

It’s 1964 and Malcolm X, Cassius Clay, Sam Cooke and Jim

Brown are hanging out after Clay’s victory over Sonny Liston in Miami. On the cusp of one of the country’s most contentiou­s eras, what do they talk about? That’s the subject of actress Regina King’s directoria­l debut that is a strong contender for Oscar love this year. Rated R. “Redemption Day”

Indie action-thriller about a war hero who has to rescue the love of his life froma group of terrorists.

“Stuck Apart”

Turkish comedy-drama, originally titled “Azizler,” about Aziz, a man undergoing a midlife crisis. Unrated. Begins streaming Jan. 8 on Netflix.

“The White Tiger”

Aravind Adiga’s India-set novel about a poor driver’s climb up the social ladder is turned into an entertaini­ng film from director Rahmin Bahrani (“99 Homes”). Priyanka Chopra, Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav star. Rated R.
