Road work is needed headache for church

- From staff reports

West U residents may have to find different routes to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for the next few years after the $35 million Buffalo Speedway reconstruction begins this quarter.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, construction should begin early this year and is expected to move from south to north, starting on Holcombe Boulevard and heading toward Bissonnet Street. If weather permits, the project is expected to be completed late in 2023, TxDot officials said.

For the pastor, Msgr. William Young, the construction comes as a necessary headache. It will temporarily take away an entrance to one side of the church’s property but eventually will increase the street’s drainage ability, which Young said was exposed after Hurricane Harvey.
