Act like a conservative

-

Regarding “Councilman faces heat for ‘repugnant’ posts,” (A3, Dec. 30): Mayor Sylvester Turner and the Houston City Council should take decisive action against Greg Travis for his racist comments on Facebook. For the conservatives on City Council, let me remind you

that racism is not a conservative value. Neither is making inappropriate comments toward women, or sex with a porn star, massive deficits, making fun of a disabled human being or claiming a wife or daughter’s achievements were due to sleeping around. Over the last five years conservatives across this country said nothing about racist dog whistles. They made excuses like “I don’t like his racist comments but I like my 401K.” Because of this silence, racists across the country have popped up because there are no consequences for their actions. And now one has popped up in Houston City Council. Your silence is not a dog whistle. It is a train horn. If you are going to call yourself a “conservative” then act like one and act against Travis.
