Car crashes into a tree, killing driver

A man died when his car crashed into a tree Sunday morning in northwest Houston.

The man was driving a white Chevrolet Malibu westbound on Queenston when he struck a tree near Barker Cypress Road. He died at the scene, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department.

Phillip Lillibridge, an accident investigator with the Harris County Sheriff’s office, said that certain damages, such as the steering wheel snapping at the stem, indicate that the driver was likely speeding.

“We could tell by the marks on the roadway, and damage from striking the tree that there was significant speed involved,” Lillibridge said.
