College Hall calls UT’s Sims

-

Kenneth Sims, who anchored some of the University of Texas' best defenses, was named to the 2021 class of the College Football Hall of Fame on Monday.

Sims, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1982 NFL draft by the New England Patriots, came to Texas in 1978 from Groesbeck and teamed with Steve McMichael in the middle of the Texas defensive line. Sims was an All-SWC selection as a junior and senior. He won the Lombardi Award and was named to five AllAmerican teams after his senior year in 1981.

He is the 21st Texas player in the College Football Hall of Fame.

The 2021 College Football Hall of Fame class will be officially inducted during 63rd NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 7 alongside the 2020 Hall of Fame class, after the 2020 event was canceled due to COVID-19.

Joining Sims are Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer of Southern Cal, former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, running backs Darren Sproles of Kansas State and C. J. Spiller of Clemson; offensive tackles Harris Barton of North Carolina and Aaron Taylor of Notre Dame; defensive stars David Fulcher of Arizona State, Dan Morgan of Miami, Andre Tippett of Iowa and Al Wilson of Tennessee. Former Eastern Illinois quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo also was selected for induction along with former Florida A&M coach Rudy Hubbard.
