Noah Kon, Houston Christian

Notable: The senior guard had an outstandin­g week, scoring 20 points with five rebounds and five assists in 16 minutes in a 93-31 victory over St. Pius X on Tuesday and adding 21 points with 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals in an 85-66 victory over St. Thomas on Friday. Houston Christian is 17-1 and winner of 12 straight going into a showdown at Concordia Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

What Ron Crandall said: “Each year he has made a drastic improvemen­t. This year, it’s been about maturity and handling himself on the court and just playing with a competitiv­e spirit more consistent­ly, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.”

Other nominees Reggie Branch, Cros

by: Branch had 20 carries for 135 yards and four touchdowns in a 62-61 overtime victory over Liberty Hill in Friday’s Class 5A Division II state semifinal. The totals include the winning score — a 13-yard touchdown run in overtime.

Seth Davis, Katy: Davis had 169 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries along with a 12-yard touchdown pass in Katy’s 63-7 victory over Buda Hays in the Class 6A Division II state semifinal on Saturday.

Bryce Griggs, Hightower: Averaging 23.5 points per game this season, Griggs scored 30 points and 14 points in victories over Willowridg­e and Angleton, respective­ly, last week.

Girls

KaiyaWynn, Foster

Notable: The Tennessee signee tallied a tripledoub­le with 28 points, 20 rebounds and 12 assists in a victory over Lamar Consolidat­ed. She followed with 34 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in a victory over Willowridg­e and 26 points, 12 rebounds and five steals in a victory over Fulshear. Wynn, a transfer from Ensworth School in Nashville, Tenn., is averaging 29.6 points, 11.3 rebounds and 5.3 steals this season.

What coach Savitria Williams-Smith said: “Kaiya has been a great asset because Kaiya is that great alpha on both ends of the floor. She’ll disrupt an offense. It’s hard to pass over her. She has quick hands. It’s hard to defend her. She’s on the boards. She’s just everywhere, a true alpha on the court.”

Other nomineees

Laney Gonzales, Magnolia: Gonzales collected six goals and eight assists during the first week of the soccer season as the Lady Bulldogs went 4-0 and outscored their opponents 31-1.

Zoe Seeley, Memorial: She opened the season with a hat trick in a 5-1 victory over Klein Oak and had one goal apiece in a 4-0 victory over Clements and a 2-1 victory over Tompkins.

Mic’Kayla Leftridge, New Caney: She poured in a game-high 22 points, including 12 in the third quarter, in a 46-39 victory over Caney Creek. New Caney is 9-6 on the season.
