Texas A&M closes on 12-5 run to defeat Mississipp­i St.

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Emanuel Miller and Andre Gordon each scored five points during Texas A&M’s closing 12-5 run as the Aggies beat Mississipp­i State 56-55 on Wednesday night.

The Aggies (7-4, 2-3 Southeaste­rn Conference) snapped a twogame skid while Mississipp­i State (8-5, 3-2) had its two-game win streak end.

Jay Jay Chandler scored 12 points off the bench to lead Texas A&M. Gordon finished with 11 points, and Miller had 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs led 50-44 with 5:14 to play. Miller scored the next five points, Savion Flagg added a dunk, and Gordon added an alley-oop dunk plus a 3-pointer, and the Aggies led 56-52 with 1:52 left.

Jalen Johnson split a pair of free throws for Mississipp­i State to cap the scoring with 57 seconds left.

Iverson Molinar, whose 19.2 points per game is third in the SEC, had 16 points to lead the Bulldogs. D.J. Stewart Jr., who averages 18.6 points, added nine points on 3-of-14 shooting.

Texas A&M used a 17-4 run to tie it at 44 with about eight minutes remaining.

Carlik Jones scored a seasonhigh 23 points to help the Cardinals beat the host Demon Deacons, extending Louisville’s best start in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Samuell Williamson added 15 points and 11 rebounds for Louisville (9-1, 4-0 ACC), which blew nearly all of a 16-point secondhalf lead before finally putting this one away in the final six minutes as Wake Forest went cold.

Louisville shot 51 percent for the game to reach 4-0 in the league, marking the program’s best since joining the ACC before the 2014-15 season.

Jay Huff scored 18 points, and Sam Hauser had 15 points and nine rebounds as the host Cavaliers beat the Fighting Irish for their fourth consecutiv­e victory.

The 7-1 Huff made a careerbest four 3-pointers in the first half as Virginia (8-2, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) opened an 18-10 lead and built it to 37-25 by halftime.

Duane Washington Jr. scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Buckeyes to a win over the Wildcats in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State (10-3, 4-3 Big Ten) avenged a one-point loss to Northweste­rn on Dec. 26.

Women HOUSTON 75, TULSA 49

Julia Blackshell-Fair had 20 points and 11 rebounds, Dymond Gladney added 14 points and three steals, and the Cougars routed the Golden Hurricane at Fertitta Center to improve to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the American Athletic Conference.

Madison Greene had 20 points and a career-high six steals, Jacy Sheldon and Braxtin Miller each added 18 points, and the Buckeyes (7-0, 3-0 Big Ten) beat the Hawkeyes in overtime to snap Iowa’s 42-game home winning streak.

Elisa Pinzan had 22 points, seven assists and a career-best six steals to lead the Bulls (10-1, 7-0 American) to a victory over the Green Wave in New Orleans.

Dee Bekelja scored 22 points and Lexi Held had 21 points, five rebounds and seven assists to help the Blue Demons (7-3, 4-1 Big East) beat the Red Storm in Chicago.
