Bond proposal for May focuses on ISD growth

-

A new school bond proposal is in the works in Katy Independent School District.

The Community Bond Advisory Committee gathered this week for the first of three meetings to consider placing a bond referendum on the May ballot. Socially distanced on the floor of the Leonard E. Merrell Center, the roughly 110 members heard from district officials and industry experts.

The district plans to build one high school, one junior high school and three elementary schools. The bond would also provide for campus renovations and investments in technology and safety and security.

Kris Pool, director of planning at Population and Survey Analysts, said Katy ISD has led the Houston area in terms of new students enrolling. Pool predicted there will be more than 100,000 students by 2026 and more than 108,000 by 2030.
